Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Pension Rights Orientation cover?
The orientation is a structured first session where we review your specific circumstances — whether you are approaching EPF withdrawal, dealing with a past employer pension, or considering a private retirement scheme. You leave with a written note summarising the key points and any steps that may be relevant to your situation. It is not a commitment to further action; it is simply an informed starting point.
How long does a pension recovery matter typically take?
This varies considerably depending on the nature of the dispute. A straightforward contribution discrepancy resolved through correspondence may conclude within a few months. Matters proceeding to the Industrial Court or civil proceedings operate on the court's timetable, which can extend to a year or more. We set expectations honestly at the outset and keep you informed at each stage.
Can I bring a family member to the consultation?
Yes. Many clients find it helpful to have a spouse, adult child, or other trusted person present. We are comfortable accommodating this and will ensure the session remains clear and accessible for everyone attending. If you are acting on behalf of an elderly relative, we can discuss the appropriate documentation in advance.
What documents should I prepare before the first session?
For an orientation, it is helpful to bring any EPF statements or pension letters you have received, records of past employment where relevant, and any correspondence with KWSP, a former employer, or KWAP. If you do not have all of these, we can work with what is available and advise on how to obtain missing records.
Are your fees fixed, or do they vary by outcome?
Our published fees are fixed for each service tier. The Orientation (RM 265) and Retainer (RM 1,395/year) are set amounts. The Recovery Counsel engagement (RM 710) covers the defined scope described in our service terms; any extensions to scope are discussed and agreed before any additional work proceeds. We do not charge on a contingency basis.
Is the information I share kept confidential?
All client information is subject to legal professional privilege and our obligations under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (Malaysia). Documents and records you share with us are held securely and are not disclosed to any third party without your explicit consent, except where required by law.
Do you handle EPF matters for private-sector employees as well as civil servants?
Yes. We assist clients from both the public and private sectors. EPF matters for private-sector employees and KWAP or pension matters for civil servants both fall within our practice. We also work with clients who hold a combination of employment histories across sectors.
