Client Feedback
In Their Own Words
Roziana binti Hamzah
Shah Alam, Selangor — Retired civil servant
"I came in not really knowing whether I had any grounds to question the pension calculation I received after 26 years of service. Ahmad Hafiz took the time to go through the relevant provisions — not rushing at all — and by the end I had a much clearer sense of what was owed and what was not. The written notes he gave me afterwards were genuinely helpful when I went back to the JPA."

Tan Keng Huat
Petaling Jaya — Former private sector manager
"My former employer had been underpaying EPF contributions for several years — something I only discovered after I left the company. Bestari handled the correspondence with the employer and followed up with KWSP. It took several months, which was not unexpected given the process involved, but they kept me informed throughout. The matter was eventually resolved in my favour."

Nor Azura binti Abdul Razak
Kuala Lumpur — Daughter acting for elderly parent
"My father is 74 and was concerned that his beneficiary nomination was not in order. I brought him in for the orientation session and was relieved by how patiently everything was explained. Both of us were made to feel comfortable and not at all rushed. The written summary helped him refer back to the points in his own time, which was important for him."

Devraj Subramaniam
Subang Jaya — Business owner
"I signed up for the retainer arrangement because my pension situation is genuinely complex — I have worked in Malaysia, Singapore, and briefly in the UK. Noorashikin has been methodical in going through each layer and the annual reviews have given me much more confidence that things are properly structured. The coordination with my accountant has also been smooth."

Lim Mei Ling
Klang — Recently retired teacher
"I was a bit uncertain going in — I had not dealt with lawyers much before. The orientation was more straightforward than I expected. Wei Liang was the one who assisted me and he was clear and patient. I left with a better understanding of my EPF Account 1 options and the nomination paperwork, which is something I had been putting off for too long."

Zulkifli bin Ramlan
Seremban — Former GLC employee
"My GLC contributed to EPF but the amounts were incorrect during a restructuring period in 2018-2019. I had been told by others that challenging this would be difficult. Bestari reviewed the documents and drafted correspondence that eventually led to the matter being rectified. I appreciate that they were honest about what was likely and unlikely at the outset."

Pension Recovery Matter
Underpaid EPF Contributions — Manufacturing Sector
The Challenge
The client, a former production manager, discovered through an EPF statement review that contributions from his final four years of employment had been calculated on a base salary figure that excluded allowances that were, by law, included in EPF-eligible wages. The total shortfall was approximately RM 18,000 in contributions and investment returns.
What We Did
We obtained the client's employment contract and payslip records, calculated the correct contribution basis, and issued formal correspondence to the former employer. When the employer's initial response disputed the calculation methodology, we prepared a detailed legal analysis referencing relevant EPF Act provisions and submitted a formal complaint to KWSP's enforcement division.
The Outcome
KWSP conducted its own investigation following the complaint and directed the employer to remit the correct contributions with applicable charges. The matter was resolved within approximately eight months. The client's EPF balance was adjusted accordingly. The client noted that the process, while longer than hoped, proceeded in an orderly and understandable manner.
"I am glad I pursued this. I was told it would be difficult, but Bestari laid out what was possible from the start and did not overstate what could be done."
Long-Horizon Retainer
Cross-Sector Employment History — Ongoing Retainer
The Situation
The client had spent 12 years in the civil service followed by 15 years in the private sector, with a period of secondment to a GLC. Her pension position involved a civil service entitlement under the Pensions Act, a substantial EPF Account 1 balance from her private sector years, and a small PRS account set up during the GLC period. Her family also had a property holding company with staff EPF obligations.
The Arrangement
The client engaged Bestari's long-horizon retainer. Annual reviews document the evolving position across all three pension frameworks. We also assist with nomination document reviews each year, coordinate occasionally with her financial planner on EPF Account 1 withdrawal timing, and have provided guidance to the family company on its EPF contribution obligations.
The Value
Over three years of the retainer, we have updated nominations twice in response to family changes, identified one instance of an incorrect civil service pension adjustment that was corrected through administrative correspondence, and provided the family company with a written opinion on EPF scope that prevented a potential compliance issue. The client considers the annual fee well within the value of services delivered.
"Having the same team who knows my situation each year makes a real difference. I do not have to explain my history again each time something comes up."
Orientation Session
Pre-Retirement Clarity — EPF Withdrawal Planning
The Background
A client approaching 55 wanted to understand the full picture of his EPF withdrawal options before making any decisions. He had received conflicting information from colleagues about Account 1 withdrawal timing, the implications of choosing a lump sum versus phased withdrawal, and how his wife's nomination on his account would operate if he predeceased her.
The Session
The orientation covered each of his specific questions: the current withdrawal eligibility rules under the EPF Act, the practical considerations of lump sum versus instalment withdrawal from a legal (not financial) standpoint, and how nomination operates under EPF law — including the distinction between EPF nominations and wills. His wife attended and was included in the discussion.
The Result
The client left with a written session note covering all the points discussed. He chose not to engage further legal services at that stage, and none were recommended — the orientation had addressed what he needed. He returned the following year for a brief update session following a change in EPF regulations, and referred two colleagues to Bestari for their own orientation sessions.
"I came with a list of questions and left with answers to all of them, in writing. That is exactly what I needed."
